First graders participate in community service project to help Australian bush fires
Due to the recent bush fires raging in Australia, first grade teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Leitsch, asked her grade level if they’d be interested in participating in a community service project to help rebuild lost habitats. Their goal was to aid in assisting injured koala bears. Each first grade class participated and raised the necessary money to symbolically adopt one koala bear for each class, for a total of eight.
"There has been such a world-wide outpouring of support for Australia worldwide that there were no more plush thank you koalas to send from World Wildlife Fund," said Mrs. Jennifer Leitsch. "As a thank you, each of our classes were sent either a class kangaroo or Tasmanian devil, as representatives of Australian animals who were helped thanks to the contributions of each class. We learned about Australia, Tasmania, and the three animals mentioned."
