SNOW EMERGENCY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a snow emergency?

A snow emergency is declared when by reason of sleet, freezing rain, or heavy snowfall, a serious public hazard exists impairing transportation and the movement of fire, medical and police protection services on city streets. (Chapter 3, Sections 317 & 318, Valley Municipal Code)

What are my responsibilities as a resident of Valley during a snow emergency?

As a resident of Valley, you are responsible for making sure that any vehicles you own are removed from the city maintained streets so that the streets can be treated or plowed their full width. You are also responsible for removing snow from your sidewalks, without directing said snow onto city streets, within 24 hours of the end of the weather event. Sidewalks within the Valley business district need to be cleaned within 5 hours of the end of the weather event unless it happens overnight, which in that case they need to be cleaned by 8:30 am  the following morning. The rules for sidewalks apply to any winter weather event, not just snow emergencies. (Chapter 5, Section 308, Valley Municipal Code)
