Alexa Ymker, SBS Paraprofessional at the Intermediate School
Question: How long have you worked for Lansing USD469?
Answer: Since march of 2023
Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?
Answer: I work with fourth and fifth graders to improve social and behavioral skills.
Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?
Answer: It corresponds directly with what I want to do later in life. I’m currently enrolled at the University of Kansas studying applied behavioral sciences, my concentration is early childhood autism intervention so getting to work directly with kids on and off the spectrum has been incredibly enlightening and given me valuable on the job experiences!
Question: When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?
Answer: I am working or doing school 99% of the time but my favorite thing to do with my 1% is to crochet and take photos!
Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?
Answer: I started school in England which meant I got to start a year ahead, which means I’m currently on track to graduate with my BA by the time I’m 20 and my MA by the time I’m 22.
Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?
Answer: At the end of last school year I gave my team a gift to say thank you to them for being a part of the start of my journey and seeing their reactions filled my heart with joy.
Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?
Answer: Don’t take any of your opportunities for granted, there are so many incredible things you can expose yourself to if you just say “yes!”
