A Front Row Seat to Nature: Watch Robins Care for their Nest at Lansing Intermediate School
Lansing Intermediate School is anticipating the arrival of some new family members. A pair of robins recently built her nest in the window sill at the school, providing a unique opportunity for students and the community to witness the wonder of nature up close.
Thanks to the efforts of Maintenance and Grounds worker Drew Allen and IT Director Chris Fletcher, the school set up a camera and live stream so that anyone can keep an eye on the birds and their nest. Students are incredibly excited to see them eggs hatch into baby robins.
This isn't the first time the robin has made her nest in this location; last year, students watched as the family of birds grew and eventually left the nest. This year, the school is again providing a front-row seat to this incredible natural event.
"This is the same female as last year since we learned they come back to successful nesting sights," said fourth-grade teacher Laurie Holden. "Interesting though that she was nice enough to move one window up since the stairwell can get loud."
Like last year, the students have already named the birds:
- Momma- Apple
- Dad: Pineapple
- Egg: Kiwi
- Egg: Blueberry
- Egg: Strawberry
By observing the robin and her family, students can learn about the lifecycle of birds and the importance of preserving their habitats. They can also appreciate the beauty and complexity of nature and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.
