Local Author Engages Fourth-Grade Class in an Enchanting Journey through the Realm of Possibility
Laurie Holden's fourth-grade students at Lansing Intermediate School had the opportunity to welcome author Mr. Bobby Bone to answer questions about his book "The Possibilities of Adalay" on Wednesday, May 24th. The class has been reading the story over the past few weeks. Mr. Bone is the father to two students who attend Lansing USD469 and husband to one of our former high school social sciences teachers, Mrs. Megan Bone.
"The Possibilities of Adalay" is a portal fantasy that follows the adventures of young Adalay, whose vivid imagination inherited from her father brings her to the realm of Possibility in a quest to save it from a mysterious villain.
To bring aspects of the book alive, Mrs. Holden baked ten cherry pies for her students and had them write questions for Mr. Bone on paper tied to balloons, the same method the news was delivered in the book. Mr. Bone answered the students' questions that varied from how long it took him to write it to how he came up with the silly words in the story, such as "bumble balls" and "Mr. Wixlby."
Mrs. Holden plans to make "The Possibilities of Adalay" a regular part of her curriculum for future classes. Each year, she intends to invite Mr. Bone back to the classroom. She also plans to incorporate a read-aloud journal, encouraging the students to express their understanding by drawing what they are reading.
Based on the rave reviews from our fourth-grade class, we encourage our Lansing community to pick up a copy of Mr. Bone's book to read as well:
