Dr. Penrose's "Name It, Claim It": Christina Hoverson
There are incredible lessons, projects, and opportunities for students throughout Lansing High School. To share these initiatives, Dr. Penrose sends an all-staff email with pictures of an assignment, project, or activity and titles it "Name It, Claim It." The teacher responsible then replies to all staff to briefly explain what the unit is, what they are doing, and any reactions. The email allows teachers to visit other teachers' classrooms virtually and start conversations about student learning, cross-curricular activities, and differentiation.
The February 7, 2024 "Name It, Claim It" highlighted Ms. Christina Hoverson.
Students have been working on how to read a tape measure and/or yardstick with accuracy. After practicing their measuring skills on many objects in the classroom, they were sent out on The Amazing Race to measure various things in the school. They had to solve the clue about the object they were to measure and then accurately measure it and give their answer to a “judge,” who then gave them their next clue. At first, several kids whined about being asked to get up and be active, but once they got started, their competitive juices started flowing, and they were in it to win it!!!
