Mariah Neff, Special Education Teacher
Question: How long have you worked for Lansing USD469?
Answer: 11 years
Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?
Answer: I've been teaching for 25 years (first 14 years were in Tonganoxie). I am the Special Education Department Head at the High School as well as coach/sponsor of Unified Bowling, NEG Club (non-electronic games), and RPG Club (role playing games).
Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?
Answer: I most enjoy being able to help those who need it. There is no better feeling than when a student is successful!
Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?
Answer: When I was in elementary/middle schools, I was in special education for speech and learning difficulties.
Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?
Answer: There have been so many over the years, so picking just one is tough! I do enjoy attending graduation. Seeing students cross the graduation stage to get their diploma is very special.
Question: When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?
Answer: I love watching true crime documentaries, reading fan fiction, and putting together Lego sets.
Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?
Answer: Be willing to learn - you never know what you can do unless you try.
